266,729. Wiberg, F. M. Feb. 27, 1926, [Convention date]. Producers.-Carbonic acid in gases containing it is reduced to carbon monoxide by passing the gases through carbonaceous material heated by being burned by air or oxygen supplied either together with or alternately with the gases containing the carbonic acid, and, after such treatment, the residue of unconverted carbonic acid in the gases is reduced by bringing the gases into contact with electrically heated carbonaceous material. A pair of water-gas producers are suitable, being used alternately for blasting and passage of the gases containing the carbonic acid before their passage through the electrically heated material.
