Fuel economizers; boilers, arrangement of. - A fuel-economizer, of the kind set out in the parent Specification, is formed in three pieces, comprising a back member 7 with a bottom piece 5 and side walls 30 integral with it; a front member 13, the rear face 34 of which is doubly-inclined, as shown, to fit against the correspondingly-formed front edges of the walls 30; and a top member 22 resting on the front and rear members. A vertical flue 10 is formed in the rear wall of the back member, near the bottom of which is an opening 33 controlled by a damper 39, and a recess 4 extends into this flue from the front of the base part 5. The front member is cut away at the bottom so as to straddle the part 5, and is provided with vertical ribs 35 on the rear face, a number of openings 17 leading to the spaces between them, and a cut-away portion 18 forming a further opening. The top member 22 is provided with a flue 26 in alignment with the flue 10 and opening into the chamber 37 formed between the front and rear members together with an inclined flue 28 leading from the front part of the economizer. Water-heating tubes 38 are arranged as shown in the chamber 37. When the device is in use, air passes through the grate, the recess 4, a flue 10 to the flue 26, and the fire gases in part pass through the flue 28 and in part through the openings 17, 18 to the chamber 37, from which they enter the flue 26, partly by way of the flue 10 under control of the damper 39.
