Vessels and storage chambers, tunnel systems for emptying. - The material is discharged from the compartments, such as B, of the hold by conveyers 23 in tunnels 17 which form vertical or steep sides of deep cargo compartments extending below the level of the conveyers, and an elevator is provided for delivering on to the conveyers the material left at the bottom of the compartments. As shown, a pair of bucket elevators 38 and a pair of shoots 46, 47 are mounted on a truck 37 running on rails 35 along each compartment. The elevators can be raised about the head shaft 38, and the lower part of each shoot can be raised about a hinge 47a to permit the passage of the apparatus through a doorway 48 in the bulkhead 13.
