Abstract
263,820. Hardinge Co., Inc., (Assignees of Hardinge, H.). Aug. 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Density separators.-A pulverizing-mill and appajatus for classifying and collecting the material from the material-laden air are arranged with an exhauster in such a manner that a greater part of the apparatus operates under low pressure. The mill 10 discharges the disintegrated material through the trunnion 11, the barrel 14, and the conduit 15, to the classifier 16, which is of the type described in Specification 257,568. The discharge pipe 22 of the clarifier is connected to the inlet of a dust collector 23, the outlet 25 of the collector being connected to the suction side of the exhauster 17 by a pipe 25. The pressure side of the exhauster is connected to a pipe 13, which enters the barrel 14 and terminates opposite a pipe 12 leading into the mill 10. The material passes from the mill round the outside of the pipe 12 to the barrel 14, and some drops into the space between the pipes 13, 12 and is carried again into the mill by the air current. From the barrel the material passes between the casings 16. 18 of the classifier, then between the vanes 19 which produce a whirling action, and air laden with small particles leaves the clarifier by the pipe 22. The heavy or large particles fall inside the casing 18 and are returned to the mill through the conduit 21 and pipe 13. The small particles are separated in the collector 23 and can be drawn off through the pipe 24. An adjustable baffle 26 is arranged in the pipe 13 close to the conduit 21 to restrict the cross-section at this point to vary the velocity of the air flow. With the arrangement as shown, the clarifier and the collector work at a low pressure. A vent pipe 27 with a controlling valve 28 may be attached to the pipe 13. A bye-pass conduit 29 with a valve 30 is arranged between the exhauster discharge and the clarifier entry 15 so that air can be drawn directly into the, clarifier without passing through the mill.
