Waterproofing; proofing against bacteria; proofing compositions; wood, treating with liquids.- Wood and similar material is preserved by treatment with a mineral oil having dissolved therein complex salts of tartaric acid with arsenic and an organic base, such as aniline arsenic tartarate, pyridine arsenic tartarate and similar compounds of quinoline and strychnine. Mineral oils such as coal tar oils, wood tar oils and shale tar oils may be employed as the solvent. Compounds such as phenols, naphthols or other organic bases may be added: also compounds such as copper, lead, and mercury oleates, together with other oils. Any impregnating-process may be used.
