Abstract

247,826. Bergmann, M. July 6, 1925. Treatment preliminary to tanning.-Skins and hides are depilated by treatment with inorganic and organic nitrogen bases or their compounds such as ammonia or ammonium sulphide, or soluble silicates, such as waterglass, and then with ordinary depilatories, such as lime, lime and sodium sulphide or lime and arsenic sulphide. A mixture of substances may be used in the preliminary treatment, for example sulphides of nitrogen bases and soluble silicates.
