Abstract
263,490. Chavand, R. Dec. 22, 1925, [Convention date]. Belts.-Link belts comprise traction members built up of plates 2 pivotally connected by pins 3, the friction members 1 being compressed by rivets or screws 5 between the plates 2 so as to protrude above and below the traction members. The plates 2 are of raw leather or leather slightly tanned by quinone and may be varnished with natural gum or synthetic resin varnish to exclude moisture. The members 1 are of chrome leather saturated with fat. When the plates 2 are of raw leather, the water in the belt is reduced during working, so that the belt tightens to prevent slip. The ends of the plates 2 may be flattened, as shown on the left-hand side of Fig. 10, so that when the belt turns around the pulley, the ends of the lower edges of the members 1 are subjected to an additional force pressing them upon the pulley. The pivot pins 3 may be lengthened so as to connect several systems of links and friction members, or such systems may be interconnected by leather strips riveted to the side plates of the systems. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the plates 2 may be. slightly tanned by formaldehyde. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
