Diaphragms. - A large diaphragm for a loud-speaker increases substantially uniformly in thickness from the point of application of the force to the periphery, so that the vibratory impedance of concentric zones increases towards the periphery. Fig. 1a shows a diaphragm having one of plane face 2, and Fig. 2a shows a conical diaphragm. The diaphragm may be made of paper or wood or of the combination of paper and wood. Three-ply fir or balsa wood are suitable materials. The diaphragm may be reinforced by ribs or layers of paper, wood, or the like. The diaphragm may be so designed that imperfections in the electromagnetic movement are corrected, the impedance of zones corresponding to frequencies at which the movement is more, or less, efficient being correspondingly modified.
