Abstract

262,568. Shaw, A. W., and Steeper, H. Nov. 4, 1925. Receptacles, detachably securing to flat bases. -Relates to means for securing articles of luggage to the grid or carrier of a motor-vehicle of the kind comprising a strap 3, which is coiled upon a spring drum located in a casing 5 and is adapted to be passed over the luggage 2 for connection to a buckle 11 on the frame of the carrier 1, a pawl 7 on the casing 5 engaging a ratchet wheel 6 on the spring drum to prevent the strap from further unwinding and consequent slackening after the luggage has been secured. According to the invention, two straps 3 and drums are employed, one located near each side edge of the carrier and the drums are connected together by a spindle 10 so that, when the pawls 7 are released, a pull on one strap effects a rotation of both drums, and the other strap is simultaneously pushed outwardly from its casing. The casings are provided with flanges by which they are attached at the rear to the underside of the carrier.
