Abstract

262,520. Wallis, C. J. Sept. 11, 1925. Vibratory treatment.-In apparatus of the kind in which vibrations are obtained by means of a flexible elastic membrane stretched over a perforated annular chamber connected to a continuous water supply, the annular chamber 1, having a central outflow tube 5 has an outer end face of dome shape or rounded form of small radius and the perforations 2 are situated in rear of the most advanced part 1<a> of the rounded surface. Water flowing through the perforations 2 distends the rubber diaphragm 3 and, being constrained to follow a markedly arcuate path to the central outflow pipe 5, sets up powerful pulsation of the diaphragm 3. The rubber diaphragm 3 is secured in position bv a threaded sleeve 7 and may be moulded to the shape of the annular chamber or normally flat, or may be serrated or nippled as shown in Fig. 5, or may have a flared axial extension as shown in Fig. 4. The inlet pipe 4 is of smaller diameter than the outflow pipe 5 and lies parallel to, or may be in one casting with, the latter; it is bent at right angles to support a handle 8 and is fitted with a union for connection with an ordinarv household water supply tap. Specification 28029/11 is referred to.
