Abstract

259,083. Hastings, W. M. Jan. 18, 1926. Clearing-apparatus; stopmotions.-A clearer for yarns and other filaments comprises an arrangement of slotted blades one of which is moved in contact with a slub to coact with the remainder of the device and provide a more restricted passage whereby either the slub or removed, or the yarn is broken and the stop-motion operated. The clearer 10, Fig. 2, comprises a member 30, having two horizontally projecting blades 33, 34 formed with slots 36, Fig. 3, and a blade 40 having a slot 42 projecting downwardly between, and free to move relatively to, the blades 33, 34 to provide a restricted passage x for the yarn y. The blade 40 is mounted on a fixed arm 50, while the member 30 is carried on a swinging frame 15 pivoted at 16 and adapted on breakage of the thread to be moved into the position shown in Fig. 4, this movement resulting from the release of a detector guide 11 and the consequent actuation of a knock-off hook 19 by a striker bar 17, the yarn package 1, which is being wound on a spindle 2 carried by a bell crank 25 connected bv a notched bar 26 to the frame 15. being simultaneously lifted away from the roll 3. The blade 40 is supported by a loop 43 on a stud 44 and, under the control of a spring 46, is free to move into and out of contact with the blade 33. If desired, the device may be duplicated by the provision of two depending blades 40 co-operating with blades 33<a>, 34a, Fig. 5; while for the control spring 46 a coil spring on the supporting stud may be substituted and adapted to force the blade 40 forwardly against a stop. The separation of the blades 30, 40, Fig. 4, on breakage of the thread y, facilitates resetting of the machine.
