Abstract

257,496. Cornet, J. F. Feb. 15, 1926. Bungs.- A bunghole stopper for casks and barrels comprises an externally threaded bung - hole rim 1 having an annular groove 7 on its outer edge, an internally screw-threaded cap 3 having a raised inner portion 4, and a thin sheet metal seal 5 which is compressed between the cap and the outer edge of the rim. The groove 7 is V-shaped in cross-section, the outer face being vertical, and the seal 5 is convex with a .beaded edge which is forced into the groove 7. The seal is distorted to the shape shown on tightening-up the cap, and can only be removed by the use of a suitable tool. Illicit tampering with the seal is consequently easily detected.
