Heterodyne receiving systems; thermionic heterodyne receivers.-In a wireless receiver of the heterodyne type, the local oscillations are modulated at an audible frequency. The modulation of the local oscillator U may be effected by an alternating plate supply current or by other means, and the modulated oscillations are combined in the circuit B with the incoming waves received on the aerial A. After rectification by the detector R. the beat current appears in the tuned circuit I, and is transferred to the second detector D giving an audible note in the phones T. The beat frequency may be greater or less than the wave frequency. The note heard does not vary with fluctuations of the transmitted frequency.
