Abstract
256,634. Krupp Grusonwerk Akt.- Ges., F. Aug. 7, 1925, [Convention date]. Tin oxide and sulphide.- Tin-containing ores and metallurgical products are heated to volatilize the tin in the form of sulphide, solid sulphurcontaining materials such as pyrites being added if necessary to supply the requisite sulphur. The operation may be effected in a reverberatory furnace such as a rotary tube, in which case there is added some reducing agent such as fuel to avoid oxidation; or a blast furnace may be employed, when sufficient fuel will usually be present throughout. The furnace gases themselves may be oxidizing and need not contain sulphur, and' in these circumstances the tin sulphide volatilized from the material is converted to, and recovered as, oxide. If, however, the furnace gases are neutral the tin sulphide is recovered as such.
