Memorandum appliances; block and sheet holders; holders or retainers for pencils.-In holders for attaching writing-tablets to desk telephones of the kind hinged to a clip or other device secured to the column of the instrument so that it can be alternatively turned down to rest upon the desk or other support, or turned up against the column when not in use, a spring is provided to hold the support for the tablet in the out-ofuse position, and is arranged to assist the support to assure this position. As shown in Fig. 3, the holder comprises a sheet of metal a with inwardly-turned portions a along its outer end and sides to engage the back sheet or base of a pad b, the inner end of the holder being hingedly connected to an extension c provided with a clip c<1> which is adapted to embrace the column of the instrument. The spring x is connected between the lugs so arranged on the plate a, c that the spring is inoperative when the pad is in the writing position. Co-operating stops e, e' on the plates a, c limit the rearward movement of the plate a under the action of the spring. The back of the plate a is provided with inturned members f to retain removably memorandum or other cards, or a sheet of washable material such as celluloid may be provided therein as a writing- surface. A spring clip may be provided at the outer edge of the plate a to engage the free edges of the leaves of the pad to prevent them from falling when the pad is in the out-of-use position. In a modification the pad is contained within a case of leather or the like provided with a back pocket to receive the supporting plate, the case being provided with two side flaps which fold inwardly to enclose the pad and may be secured in the closed position by adjacent co-operating loops through which a pencil is passed. The inner face of the back of the case is provided with a pocket. loops, or other means, for engaging the back of the pad to retain it in position. The rear face of the case has a pocket to receive a memorandum tablet.
