Thermo-electric batteries. - In a thermo-couple in which an electrode b is made of a fragile material -e.g. antimony, bismuththe cooling lug g has a flat extension f which is soldered to the electrode over a large area, the stress in the electrode being thus reduced, The flexible electrode c is either inserted in the electrode b as shown, a flat plate d fixed to both electrodes making contact with the heating body a, or formed as an extension of the flat plate d itself. A number of the couples may be mounted on the heating body a by means of clamps exerting a pressure in the direction of the arrow h, insulation being provided between the couples; the clamps act as additional coders. According to the modification shown in Fig. 3, the heating body a is tubular and is surrounded by sleeve-like flexible electrodes c, annular fragile electrodes b and sleeve-like members f having annular cooling ribs g.
