Abstract

251,865. Clark, E. W., and Schramm, C. Oct. 26, 1926. Pivoted-blade type.-A bookbinding-machine is provided with cutting-mechanism which severs a length of back-lining paper with head band strips secured along its edges, the material being fed from supply rolls 176, 200, between an adhesiveapplying roller 180 and pressing roller 179, and through friction rollers passing over a guide bracket 207 on to a pivoted bed 218 which is normally horizontal. The bracket 207 carries a fixed knife 209 co-operating with a blade 210, Fig. 23, on a lever 211 which is oscillated by a cam-actuated bell crank lever 214 through links 212, 213. A suction apparatus connected to the bed 218 holds the severed strip in position while the bed swings vertically to apply it to the glued back of the book, pads 245 on the underside of the knife-carrying lever 210 serving to press the strip on to the padded face of the bed during the creation of the vacuum.
