Abstract

251,085. Electrical Improvements, Ltd., Gregory, R. W., and Grant, L. C. April 1, 1925. Fusible cut-outs. - A fuse, for use in a circuit connecting a high-tension bus-bar to a potential transformer, comprises a tubular container A with metal caps B, D, the cap D being separated from the tube by an insulating cap C. Between the caps are located a nichrome spring F and a fuse wire E, which is thus kept under tension. On the occurrence of a short circuit, the current is limited in value to within the safe rating of the fuse by the resistance of the spring, and the fused ends of the wire E are pulled apart both by the elastic action of the spring and also by the electrodynamic effect of the heavy current passing through the convolutions thereof. An insulating body G attached to the spring F serves as an arc-deflector, and the container may be filled with oil or calcium carbonate. The caps B, D have fiats B<1> D<1> thereon to engage external contacts.
