Abstract

249,678. Woodham, H. G. March 30, 1925. Jacks. -An adjustable mine-prop or jack of the kind having a screw and nut and a protecting sleeve is provided with packing between the inner and outer sleeves, the inner sleeve carrying an adjustable head and the screw a base-plate. The base-plate a is ribbed and has studs a<5> and apertures a<3> for securing spikes and is secured to the lower end of the screw b. The screw carries a nut f with a sleeve extension f<1> perforated for a tommy-bar g and having a ball-joint connection f<3> with the head h. The protecting sleeve d is secured at its lower end d<1> to the screw and is provided at its upper end with a recess d<2> for packing e. A ball-jointed base m, Fig. 3, may be used and extension tubes k may be fitted between the base and the screw. The parts may be reversed so that the nut is at the top of the screw and the packing at the bottom of the sleeve. In a duplex form a right and left-handed screw is centrally perforated for the tommy-bar and carries outer sleeve extensions with packing at the ends.
