Abstract

Sofas convertible into bedsteads have end frames A and a back in two portions B each hinged to the frame A or detachable so that a second mattress frame resting under the seat may be withdrawn and supported between the back portions B to form a double or two single beds, the mattress frames being extended at both ends. The mattress serving as a seat is attached to the end frames A by dovetailed fittings, and the front D covering the lower mattress which may be slid out is in two outer parts to allow of extension. The backs may be lifted off the hinges and are held as in Fig. 1 by a clip to the frame. By drawing the end frames A apart a pair of interconnected slides E is extended from each end of each mattress frame, each slide E carrying one part of the fitting for the end frame A and having a pin or roller projecting into a slot C in the mattress frame to limit its motion. Rollers may be provided on the slides E for easy motion in the mattress frames. The space between the slide when extended is covered by plywood.
