Abstract

A protective case 100 for a mobile device, such as a phone, includes first and second parts 102, 104 which form a housing for the mobile device. The first part 102 has an opening 106 to allow access to an input part, e.g. a touch screen, of the mobile device. A retractable shutter 108 is able to slide across the opening 106 to protect the screen when the device is not in use. The shutter can be located in a track (110, fig.3), and the shutter itself may comprise a plurality of interconnected slats (112, fig.3), which can be connected together by flexible hinges (114, fig.3), The protective case and the shutter 108 may be made of hard materials, for example, plastic materials or metals.

Field of Invention
This invention relates to a protective case for mobile devices, and in particular to a protective case having a sliding shutter and suitable for use with mobile devices such as a mobile phone, a FDA, an electronic book, a tablet computer, an mp3 player and a handheld games console.
Background of the Invention
Protective cases for mobile devices, such as phones, PDA5 and the like are commonplace, and are generally formed of a flexible material such as leather or plastic, have a transparent window so the user can see the screen, and a flap so that the user can access the keys. Whilst protecting the mobile device from scratching and being convenient for use, these do not offer a high degree of mechanical protection to the mobile device.
The screens of some mobile devices, particularly those with touch sensitive screens, are often protected by transparent adhesive films. However, some manufacturers are beginning to ban the sale of such screen protectors, leaving touch screens unprotected.
Disclosure of Invention
From the foregoing, it may be appreciated that a need has arisen for a sturdy and robust protective case for a mobile device such as a mobile phone, PDA or electronic book that still allows easy access to the device.
According to various, but not all, embodiments of the present invention, there is provided a protective case for a mobile device including: a first part detachably connected to a second part to form a housing for the mobile device the first part having an opening to allow access to an input part of the mobile device; in which a retractable shutter is able to slide across the opening to protect the input part of the mobile device.
The shutter Can be located in a track and can include a plurality of interconnected slats joined together by flexible hinges.
The shutter, the first part and the second part can include hard materials include hard materials such as plastic or metal.
The first part can be connected to the second part by one or more snap fitments.
The input part of the mobile device can be a touch screen or a keypad.
The case can include one or more openings to allow access to sockets located on the mobile device, such as charging sockets, USB sockets, interface sockets, microphone sockets, and headphone sockets, and to allow access to peripherals located on the mobile device such as camera, microphone, speaker, and memory card slots.
The mobile device can be a mobile phone, a PDA, an electronic book, a handheld games console, a tablet computer, an mp3 player or any other mobile device known in the art.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Embodiments of the present invention and their technical advantages may be better understood by referring to Figures 1 and 2, which show a protective case (100) for a mobile device. The case includes a first part (102) detachably connected to a second part (104) to form a housing for the mobile device. The first part has an opening (106) to allow access to an input part of the mobile device. The input part of the mobile device can be a touch screen or a keypad. 1k retractable shutter (108) is able to slide across the opening to protect the input part of the mobile device.
Referring now to Figure 3, which shows an exploded view of the case, the shutter can be located in a track (110) . The shutter can include a plurality of interconnected slats (112), which can be connected together by flexible hinges (114) The protective case and the shutter can hard materials, for example, plastic materials or metals.
The first part can be connected to the second part by one or more snap fitments (116).
The case can include one or more openings (118) to allow access to sockets or peripherals located on the mobile device. The sockets can include, for example, charging sockets, (JSB sockets, interface sockets, microphone sockets, and headphone sockets. The peripherals can include a camera, speaker, and memory card slots.
The mobile device can be, for example, a mobile phone, a FDA, an electronic book, a handheld games console, a tablet computer or an mp3 player.
In use, the mobile device is placed in the second part and the first part is snapped into place against the second part, enclosing the mobile device within the protective case. Pccess to the input part of the mobile device is via the shutter, which may be slid across the opening.
The dimensions of protective case are comparable to the mobile device it is to house, and the dimensions of the opening and the shutter are comparable to the size of the input part of the mobile device. For example, for a mobile phone, the housing is 20mm deep, 70mm wide and 126mm long.
