Abstract

246,468. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Jan. 21, 1925, [Convention date]. Fibres, batching and lubricating; fibres, treating; yarns, treating with liquids.-In the oiling, sizing and similar treatment of fibres and fibrous materials there is added to the oiling or sizing preparation aromatic sulphonic acid preferably an aromatic sulphonic acid substituted by a side chain, such as propyl or butyl naphthalene sulphonic acid, a benzyl sulphanilic acid or similar compounds, or the salts of such acids, or the condensation products of sulphonated phenols or naphthalene and formaldehyde. Thus, in the oiling of wool &c. the addition of these acids gives a more perfect emulsion and a better penetration, a suitable bath consisting of olein, the sodium salt of isopropylated naphthalene sulphonic acid, and water; for sizing warps &c., a suitable composition is potato starch, the sodium salt of butylated naphthalene sulphonic acid, made up by boiling with water. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of an organic sulphonic acid, and mentions in particular aromatic sulphonic acids substituted by alkylated amino groups such as dimethyl metanilic acid and diamyl-alpha-naphthylamine sulphonic acid: and it refers to the oiling, sizing, waterproofing and other treatment of wool, cotton, jute, hair, artificial silk, &c., and also to the addition to the preparations of soap or saponaceous materials. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
