Abstract
253,105. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. June 2, 1925, [Convention date]. Cleansing compositions. - Soaps or turkey-red oils may be used in dyeing, fulling, and other baths which are acid or contain calcium or magnesium salts by addition of a hydroasomatic or aromatic sulphonic acid of high wetting power, or a salt thereof, or sulphite-cellulose lye. Such sulphonic acids containing an alkyl group are especially efficient. Amyl-naphthylamine sulphonic acid, and naphthalene sulphonic acids containing one or more isopropyl or butyl groups are specified. In an example 50 kilograms of woollen cloth are fulled with a soap solution of 5 BÚ. made slightly acid by di-isopropyl naphthalene sulphonic acid. Acids of high wetting power are defined as those of which 0.5 per cent aqueous solutions of their sodium salts wet a felted fabric, e.g. of wool or cotton, within an hour. Specification 19759/12 is referred to.. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the making, suitable for use in hard or salt water or with acid dye-baths and for washing and fulling fabrics and in carbonizing baths, or saponaceous or turkey-red oil and like compositions, by including therein a hydro-aromatic or aromatic sulphonic acid or salt of high wetting power. An organic solvent, sulphite cellulose liquor, or both may be added. The compositions may be prepared by mixing the acid or its salt or a concentrated solution thereof with fused soap, or kneading or mixing the soap and dry salt together, or by adding the acid during the saponification process. 20 parts by weight of acid or salt to 80 parts of soap is suitable. Borax, alkali, silicates, glycerol, benzine, alcohols, cyclohexanol, ethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether, or other solvent may also be added. Sulphonic acids specified are those obtained by condensing hydro-aromatic or aromatic sulphonic acids with aliphatic. hydro-aromatic, or aromatic-aliphatic alcohols such as isopropyl or butyl alcohols, cyclohexanol, and benzyl alcohol; condensation products of formaldehyde with naphthalene sulphonic acids: and sulphonic acids containing halogen, nitro, amino, or hydroxyl groups. In one example, crude wool is treated at atmospheric or higher temperature for ¢ hr. in a bath containing in each litre about 6 grams of grain or resin soap, 10 grams of butylnaphthalene sulphonic acid, and 4 grams of sodium bisulphite. The sulphonic acid may be replaced by dibutyl-aniline-sulphonic acid, condensation products of cresol-sulphonic acid with formaldehyde. or sulphonated anthracene residues. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
