Abstract

246,410. Williams, T., and Swart, C. A. Oct. 8, 1925. Baling - presses. - The platen 39<1> has a cross-bar 36 adapted to slide in vertical slots in the sides of the press-box 6, and is carried by rods 42, 43 pivoted to vertically - guided crossheads 51, 52 operated by a pair of screwed rods 22, 23. Guides 57 - - 60 cause the platen to swing laterally away from the open top of the press-box as soon as platen is raised clear of the box, and continued upward movement of the crossheads 51, 52 causes the rods 42, 43 to turn about fixed stops 61 until the platen reaches the verticalposition shown in Fig. 2. Downward movement of the cross-heads 51, 52 causes the platen to swing back into correct position over the press-box. The slotted walls of the press-box are braced by rods 19, 19<1> engaging brackets 90, 90<1>.
