Abstract

246,009. Fillmore, L. E., and Fillmore, L. W., (trading as Jackson Bros.). May 29, 1925. Wireless tuning- apparatus, adjustment devices for.- A fine adjusting- device for variable condensers, variometers &c. comprises a train of reduction gearing 17 operated by a knob 13, the final wheel 6 of the train being frictionally coupled to the spindle to be adjusted by means of a split conical friction sleeve 4 disposed within a correspondingly shaped compression sleeve 5 secured to the instrument panel. The friction sleeve is urged into the sleeve 5 by a spring 3 bearing on the wheel 6, the arrangement being such that whilst the friction coupling is sufficient to transmit to the instrument spindle the movements of the wheel 6 imparted by the knob 13, rotation of the fine adjusting gear is prevented by slipping at the coupling when coarse adjustment of the spindle is effected by direct operation of a knob 12 secured to the spindle. The gearing may be arranged so that the fine adjusting spindle lies concentrically within a hollow spindle carrying the movable part of the instrument, or the toothed wheels may be replaced by coupled radial arms on eccentric discs on the spindles.
