Abstract

Telephones.-In a loudspeaker or earphone comprising an iron diaphragm 4, a magnet 2 polarized at its centre and periphery, a softiron core 6, and a central rod 7 adjustable so as to vary the air gap between its inner end and the diaphragm, the peripheries of the magnet 2 and the diaphragm 4 are connected by a cylindrical sheet-iron ring 3. The winding 9 is fixed. In a modification the core 6 is flush with the inner side of the magnet 2, but projects slightly beyond its outer side; in this construction the size of the coil 9 may be increased. The parts 2, 3 may be slit to eliminate Foucault currents. The system may be enclosed in a non- magnetic box 1.
