Abstract

243,219. Brooke, H. K. March 25, 1925. Pressing and squeezing lemons and the like.- A machine for expressing the juice from lemons and the like comprises upper and lower pairs of rotary drums 15, 17 and 14, 16, which revolve in the directions indicated by the arrows, the drums 15, 17 carrying radially arranged cups 26 which may be elongated in their line of travel and register adjacent to a knife edge 27, the halves of the fruits passing down the curved sides of the knife stand 28 to be engaged by high-speed rotary pulpers 87 arranged in the gutter-shaped peripheries of the drums 14, 16. The cups 26 are slida.ble radially to the drums 15, 17 and are urged outward by coiled springs 43, the stems 40 of the cups accommodating rind-ejecting rods 46 operated by stationary cams 25. The pulpers 37 are driven by spur or friction gearing and are slidable radially and are urged outwards by springs 35. The juice runs down the gutter-shaped peripheries of the drums 14, 16. Suitable gearing is provided for driving the various elements from a common shaft.
