Abstract

243,169. Wollaston, T. R. Dec. 1, 1924- Retorts. - In a vertical or inclined gas retort comprising upper and lower portions the fuel is stirred and precoked in the upper portion to which heat is supplied by the hot gases from the lower portion and, if desired, by external flues or a chamber by which the retort is enclosed. The pre-coking portion a has arms b attached to a rotary shaft c and fixed stages d with apertures e through which the fuel passes from stage to stage. The portion a is superposed on one or more retorts m and is provided with a gas outlet k. The two portions may be mounted in a setting v having flues w but the upper portion a may be wholly or in part situated above the setting v. Both portions or the lower portion only may be inclined.
