Piston packing.-In a split piston ring of the type having two staggered rows of circumferential slots 4, the overlap joint 5, 6 is so arranged that one of the slots 4 extend through the tongue 5. The axial slits 7, 8 are preferably arranged to one side of the middle of the slot 4 and of the middle of the space between the slots 4, respectively. The inner peripheral edges of the ring may be slightly bevelled to facilitate seating in a worn piston groove.
