Abstract
Tungstic oxide is obtained as a residue by treating tungsten ores such as wolframite, scheelite, or ferberite ground to one-fiftieth of a m.m. or less with a concentrated or dilute inorganic acid such as sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric, or sulphurous acid in an open or closed vessel, using pressure if desired. The tungstic oxide is washed and dried and may be reduced by heating with charcoal in a graphite or iron crucible at 1200 DEG C.
