Abstract

241,363. Clark, H. Sept. 22, 1924. Universal joints.- Blocks 7 of rubber or other non - metallic material, preferably initially spherical or substantially spherical, are compressed between the curved faces of arms 3 on one shaft and ribs 4 secured to a flange on the other shaft. The parts 3, 4, 7 are placed in position with the blocks uncompressed, and a clamp is applied to the exterior of the ribs 4 to force them towards the shaft centre. A flanged cup 10 is then passed over the ribs and secured to a flange on the second shaft by bolts 9 passing through the ribs. The arms 3 and ribs 4 may be die castings of aluminium or an alloy thereof. A leather cup may be clipped to the shaft 1 and the flange on the cup 10 to close the interior of the joint.
