Abstract

241,092. Nielsen, W. March 10, 1925. Lifting-dogs.-Gripping tongs for lifting and transporting cases, sacks &c. comprises three tubular members 1, 2, 3, adjustably connected by members 4 and 6, the outer members 1, 3 carrying toothed gripping jaws 10 and lifting rings 11. The connecting member 6 is a rod provided with hooks 7 which move in slots 9 in the members 2, 3 and can be engaged in notches 8 in the members to lock the parts in any desired position to suit the.size of the case &c. to be lifted. The connecting member 4 is a hand-lever pivoted at 5 to the members 1, 2 and is moved to close the jaws 10 after the parts 1, 3, 6 have been adjusted roughly to the siza of a case &c. placed between them. The grip is maintained partly by the jaws themselves and partly by the effect of the slings connected with the tongs at 11.
