Abstract
240,263. Wellington, S. N. July 25, 1924. Casings with internal revolving cutters.- Apparatus for disintegrating town's refuse comprises a box-shaped frame 5 surrounded by a hopper 1 and containing three or more parallel shafts 3 which all revolve in the same direction and carry cutters 2 separated by distance-pieces 4; the cutters on one shaft work between those on the adjoining shaft or shafts and stationary metal bars 14 have downwardly-bent portions which extend between the cutters on the outside shafts. The shafts 3 are carried in bearings 7 on brackets 6, and the parts of the shafts within the box 5 are square in section to receive the cutters 2 and pieces 4 which are secured by end rings 15. The cutters are of manganese steel &c. and are shaped as shown, with flat or concave cutting-faces. Disc fly-wheels 8, 8<a> at the ends of the shafts 3 carry crank-pins, the pins at each end being connected by a coupling-rod, and the wheels 8<a> are toothed and gear with wheels 9 on a shaft 12 driven by a pulley 13. The bars 14 are secured by means of a flanged piece bolted to the flanges of the frame 5, which consists of upper and lower sections bolted together. One or more shafts with cutters may be arranged above the shafts 3.
