Abstract
239,821. Goodman, J. F., and Rolison, C. G. July 1, 1925. Nails.-Relates to self-clinching anchor nails of the type comprising a nail having a bifurcated shank which is driven into a tubular socket and in which means are provided in the socket for spreading the two shank members outwardly into the material into which the socket is driven. According to the invention, tongues 30 formed integrally with the socket 10 are brought together to form an anvil for spreading the shank members 20, 21. The tongues may be dished and an additional tongue may be provided to support the tongues forming the anvil. The socket may be circular in section or may have flattened sides as shown in Fig. 3 in which case one of the corner channels forms a guiding groove for a shank member of the nail. The socket may be formed by folding a sheet-metal blank and the meeting edges thereof may be notched for interengagement. The ends of the bifurcated shank are normally bent apart as shown in Fig. 2, and the socket member may be barbed.
