Abstract

239,329. Bogard, F. T. July 25, 1924. Plug cocks; protecting covers.-A rotary plug valve suitable for flushing purposes has an arrangement of ports ,and passages whereby in one position water is discharged from a tank through the valve while another tank is filling, while in another position the first tank is filling, while the second tank is discharging. The valve casing 1 has an outlet 2, a port 5 connected through a pipe 7 to a pressure tank 8, and a port 6 connected to a similar tank. The ports 5, 6 are connected by conduits 9, 10 to similar ports in another transverse plane, and an intermediate port 11 is connected through a pipe 12 to a water supply. A taper plug 13 is provided with a stem 14 projecting through a stuffing-box 15, and the stem carries a handle 16 and shield 17. The opposite end of the casing carries a screw cap 20 having a set-screw 21 to maintain the plug in contact with the seating. The plug is provided with passages 22, 23 so that either of the pressure tanks may be connected to the outlet. At the same time, the passages 24, 25 are so disposed that the tank which is not discharging is being filled. The use of the two pressure tanks allows any sediment in the water to settle, and so protects the closure surfaces of the valve.
