Abstract

A distance comparator device for comparing distances between a target ball and played balls in a game of bowls. The device is in the form of an inverted 'L' shape which includes a recess at the base for locating the device in close proximity to the target ball. At the distal end of top of the 'L' shape an extendable and retractable cord G is mounted. In use the device is placed adjacent to the target ball and the distal end of the top end of the 'L' shape is located at a position vertically above the centre of the target ball. The cord G is extended to a played ball and locked in position by releasing locking device H. The cord is then traversed to other played balls and the nearest played ball is determined.

Description

Bowls Measure 23 91 943 The invention is an alternative device to the

standard bowls measure which is used to determine which wood is the closes to the jack aRer the completion of an end.

The standard bowls measure relies on the user positioning the measure so that the fixed point on the tape is touching, but doesn't move the jack and that the tape is positioned in straight line to the jack from each bowl that is claimed as being the closest to the jack. See Fig 1 & Fig la.

The object of this invention is to reduce the problem of positioning the measure on several occasions each end.

This invention relies on the measure being positioned once the B Fig 2 touching the jack, depres H and extending C to a bowl.

Any bowl that requires measuring can now be done by moving (C) in a 360 movement without resetting B to jack.

Preferably the material used for the invention would be plastic.

The interchangeable centre guage (B) is positioned against thejack and Measuring Stay Locking Device (H) is depressed. The pointer (C) is then pulled to one of the disputed bowls. When pointer (C) is only just touching the bowl the finger is removed off (H) to lock the tape at this distance. The pointer (C) can then be rotated 360 to measure other bowls. After measure complete (H) is present to record measuring stay (H) - C pointer for safe keeping.

Claims (3)

1. ( 3 Claims 1. A distance comparator device, comprising a vertical member

   having a first end which in use is placed on a surface and a second end having a first laterally extending member from it, the distal end of the laterally extending member having an extendable cord secured thereto and a releasable locking means for securing the extending cord in a required position.

A distance comparator device as claimed in claim 1, including a second laterally extending member extending from the first end of the vertical member and parallel to the first laterally extending member, the second laterally extending member having a recess suitable in use for locating the device in a repeatable location in relation to an object on a surface.
3. 3. A distance comparator as claimed in claim 2, where the object on the surface is a ball.
