Abstract

A spring balance coupling device for a sash window comprises a sliding shoe <B>22</B> having a detent <B>33</B> biassed into a projecting position, as in the lower sash shown, for abutment with a stop member <B>34</B> in the case jamb to restrict sliding movement of the shoe <B>22</B> but retractable into a retracted position, as in the upper sash shown, allowing free sliding movement of the shoe <B>22</B> by engagement wit a catch <B>31</B> mounted on a sash <B>32</B>, when the sash <B>32</B> is swung horizontally between an open, as in the lower sash shown, and closed, as in the upper sash shown, position. The sash <B>32</B> may be positioned with its catch <B>31</B> aligned with a stop member <B>34</B> by resting it on a hingedly mounted sash support arm. Alternatively several stop members <B>34</B> may be provided in the case jamb and the sash <B>32</B> may slide a limited distance once hinged open until the projecting detent <B>33</B> abuts one of the stop members <B>34.</B>
