Abstract
238,709. Higgins, M. F., and Nyborg,. T. G. Sept. 3, 1924. Feeding devices for endless belt conveyers; guards to prevent spilling; band - retaining devices. -Material is fed from a conveyer 4, which is already carrying material from another source, by means of a balanced shoot 6 pivoted on the axis 7, and guides 2, 3 are arranged close above the belt 4 to retain the material delivered by the shoot. The guides and shoot are mounted on a frame 1 and bridge 5. The shoot is normally horizontal, but the inner end is depressed by the load and delivers the material in the direction of travel of the belt 4 when the material already on the latter has passed allowing the shoot to swing right down. As shown, the shoot extends to either side of the pivotal axis and may be used with a belt 4 running in either direction. The shoot may extend to one side only of the axis and be balanced by a weight or it may be controlled by springs. The frame 1 preferably carries a selfaligning device for the belt comprising arms 9, 10 and a guide roller 12 carried in a frame pivoted at 11.
