Abstract
237,230. Two-Tone Corporation, (Assignees of Mijer, P.). July 16, 1924, [Convention date]. Coating - machines. - Materials such as fabrics are dyed or coated by exposure to a cloud of finelydivided coating liquid while the travelling material is held at the edges to prevent the formation of wrinkles. The apparatus employed may comprise a dyeing chamber A open at the bottom and across which the fabric passes, and provided with spraying-devices 20 in the end walls; tenterframe mechanism E is arranged on the sides of the chamber, the clips 23 of which engage the edges of the fabric and hold the latter extended. Steampipes 22, 22a are provided at the lower edges of the end walls at the points where the fabric enters and leaves the chamber, to collect and evaporate any liquid that trickles down the walls; and the part of the roof immediately above the fabric may be heated by a steam coil 44 enclosed by a roof 43, for a. similar purpose. The s.praving-nozzles 20 are arranged at the side of the chamber, and for the collection of the larger drops, troughs 21, 21a are mounted below the nozzles. To protect the clips 23 from the colour mist, shields 24, 24a are fitted; and these may be formed as steam passages so as to evaporate any liquids, for which purpose connections 75 unite them to the transverrse pipes 22, 22<a>. In order to permit of the necessary adjustment in width of the tenter-frames, the shields 24, 24a are so mounted as to 'be capable of lateral movement, being secured by bolts and nuts 73, and the connections 75 are arranged so as to slide on the pipes 22, 22<a>. As an alternative to this method of preventing the wetting of the clips, the latter may be unshielded during their passage beneath the chamber, but before such passage they are heated as by gas-jets in order that any moisture that falls on them may be evaporated. A steamcoil 38 is arranged below the chamber and over which the fabric passes. After being dyed &c. the fabric, white still carried by the tenter-frame, passes into a drying-chamber B in which a steamcoil 32 is arranged close to the upper surface of the material. Specifications 229,351, 236,194 and 236,539 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a process of coating articles or materials with liquids other than dye liquids. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
