Abstract

236,312. Grote, L. April 15, 1924. Drying and calcining furnaces.-In a furnace for the manufacture of cement the slurry or mixture is dried in shallow pans on a conveyer N, situated wholly within a long drying-chamber J, by direct contact with waste gases from the calcining chamber A to which the dried material is supplied through a hopper F and an opening E in the roof. The calcining-chamber is heated by liquid or pulverulent fuel burners G at its upper end and the gases therefrom are led through a chamber in the double roof C and flues L to side chambers K, in communication with the drying- chamber through openings M on a level with the upper lap of the conveyer. The gases may be delivered downwards on to the conveyer from a roof chamber, which may be provided as an alternative or in addition to the side chambers K. Air may be blown into the drying chamber by a fan R. The calcining- chamber is preferably of such a depth that the material cools down during its descent to the bottom discharge openings.
