Abstract
235,483. Reardon, E. J. Dec. 30, 1924. Blast apparatus.- Locomotive blast apparatus comprises outer and inner tapering petticoat pipes 9, 12, Fig. 2, arranged above the exhaust steam nozzle 8, the outer pipe 9 forming a closed continuation of the stack 4 upon which it is adjustably secured by means of bolts 11 and the. inner pipe 12 having its lower end terminating at a point not lower than the bottom of the outer pipe. The effective area of the. intake end of the pipe 9 is at least equal to the area of the boiler flues. Fig. 3 shows one form of the lower edges of the petticoat pipes, but according to modifications they may be rectangular, elliptical or circular.
