Description

2340142 Expandable Cash Machine Building The invention relates to a
prefabricated, expandable Cash machine enclosure.
Cash machines have been housed mainly inside the bank, with the fascia of the machine placed through an exterior wall of the bank building, so the public can access the machine when the bank is closed. A new trend is for these machines to be remote from the bank, in for instance supermarkets and railway stations, ie outside and inside Public areas. At these remote sites a building /enclosure has to be erected to house the machines. The machine needs to have enough space around it to be maintained by an engineer as well as space enough to be able to open the safe at the rear of the machine where the cash is replenished on a regular basis.
Loading the machine with cash demands that the building has to be secure from attack from bandits.
Normally the space inside the building would be divided into two, 1- the space around the machine, for servicing the machine and loading the safe with cash. 2- the security lobby area, this is a means of personnel entering and leaving the building through two doors that are either locked manually or interlocked! el.ect.ronically. Conventional.1y, the two spaces have fixed minimum dimensions Whicttl,-Iogethdr produce a minimum foot print dictating the,,, area:70-Vpabe needed for the site of the buildir k g The space available in the proposed sites for these buildings are at a premium, the smaller the foot print of the building the easier it will be to fit the building to potential sites, and as a result gain whatever planning permissions are required.
2 According to the present invention the expandable building reduces -the normal foot print needed for the building. This is achieved by using a swivelling access lobby which is normally folded into the internal servicing and cash loading area. When access is required, either for replenishing or servicing, the lobby swings outwards expanding the internal volume and revealing the first access door (fig 113+213). This. allows enough space for the lobby to be used and the machine to be accessed for servicing and cash loading.
Figures 1A-E show the opening and entry sequence described below. On approaching the building from the rear the lobby outer panel can be seen (fig 1A+2A), this is unlocked and pulled open exposing the lobby outer entry door (fig 113+213). Unlocking the outer door gives access to the lobby space (fig 1C). The outer door is then closed before opening the inner door (fig ID) and entering the machine space (fig 1E).
The purpose of the extendable lobby is to offer protection to personnel and cash in the machine and give space enough to service the machine.
When servicing is complete the machine is closed in the same manner as it was opened.
The external dotted line shown in the drawings indicates position of vitreous enamelled steel cladding material fused to the internal tubular structure.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by means of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which.
Figure 1A-E. Shows the sequence of events to gain entry to Tube-Bank.
Figure 2A. Shows in perspective and plan view the building with the lobby retracted.
Figure 2B. Shows in perspective and plan view the building with the lobby extended to reveal the first entrance door.
Figure 2C. Shows in perspective and plan view the building with the lobby opened past its normal limits for installation of the Cash machine.
Figure 3. Shows the main elements of the building Part A The inner structural enclosure.
Part B The lobby.
Part C The outer lobby access door.
Part D The inner lobby access door.
Part E Roof plate.
Part F Floor plate. Part G Vitreous enamelled or powder coated external steel cladding.
Referring to the drawing the building comprises a fixed tubular enclosure (fig 3A) which has attached to it a hinged lobby unit (fig 3B). Attached to the lobby are the inner and outer doors (fig 3C&3D).
Both the main enclosure and lobby volumes have floor and roof plates to protect personnel from attack when inside the building.
When the lobby is extended for service entry, it locks in position stabilising the elements to protect the personnel and cash.
At the front of the building is an opening for the cash dispenser (fig 311).

Claims (7)

1 An expandable cash machine building that comprises the main tubular structure to which is fixed an extending lobby.
The lobby has two doors, one of which opens into the interior and one opening to the outside when the lobby is extended.
The lobby has three possible positions: 1- withdrawn within the main enclosure, 2- extended for operation of lobby doors, 3- completely opened for installation of the machine.
2 An expandable cash machine building as in claim 1 where the lobby articulates through an aperture in the wall of the main structure to achieve a temporary external lobby and increased internal floor area.
3 An expandable cash machine building as in claim 1 where the extendable lobby has lockable outer and inner access doors.
4 An expandable cash machine building as in claim 1 where the footprint/plan area is minimised by means of a retractable entrance lobby.
An expandable cash machine building as in claim 1 where there is a hole at the front of the main structure for the fascia of the cash machine to show through.
6 An expandable cash machine building as in claim 1 where the lobby area closes up against the rear of the cash machine so preventing the safe doors from being opened.
7 An expandable cash machine building as in claim 1 where the structure may be any practicable shape, tubular, square etc.
