Systems depending on the use of two or more machines.-The power factor of the main n is influenced by an asynchronous wattless current machine a, connected in parallel therewith, and a separately excited rotary current exciting machine k. The machine k is excited through a tapped transformer r or rotary transformer, or by a separate auxiliary machine at main frequency. A stator fed commutator machine may be used instead of the rotor fed machine k. In order that the machine a may give a wattless efficiency to the net, or main, the exciting of the machine k may be adjusted by means of the transformer r so that the machine a is excited not from the mains n but from the machine k. At starting, the commutator machine is run as an asynchronous machine, and for this purpose it may be provided with a squirrel cage winding. If the machine k has compensating winding c, this is provided with an adjustable shunt resistance r, and the machine is started with the winding c as a secondary winding and the resistance r as a starting resistance, the machine a being disconnected from the mains.
