Abstract

232,101. Freeman, R., and Clapman, J. Aug. 26, 1924. Covers for exposed seats, such as those on the top of an omnibus, comprise fixed and movable frames connected by a flexible screen adapted to be folded or rolled up when the movable frame is lowered and to be extended vertically when the movable frame is raised, and an extensible top canopy carried by the movable frame. As shown, the fixed frame is # -shaped and consists of two tubular uprights A connected by a casing G containing a spring roller H, and a movable #-shaped frame comprising two uprights D is slidable on the tubes A and the upper ends of the uprights D are connected by a casing J containing a spring roller L. The flexible screen H' is mounted on the roller H and is secured at its outer end to the casing J so that elevation of the movable frame extends the screen automatically. A screen M, with or without side screens M<2>, is mounted on the roller L and adapted to be drawn out horizontally to form a top canopy. The tubes A carry springs adapted to raise the tubes D automatically when spring catches F are released. One or both of the tubes A may be mounted in sockets A<1> so as to be adjustable in height.
