Abstract

231,868. Rosien, C. F., (Assisnees of National Cash Register Co.). April 2, 1924, [Convention date]. Ink - ribbon mechanism.-In automatic feedreversing mechanism for ink ribbon employed in cash registers, calculating-machines, &c., reversal is positively effected by devices cooperating with the spool-flanges. The ink ribbon 30 is attached to spools 31, 32 provided with ratchet-wheels 33 co-operating with pawls 39, 40 mounted on a link 38 carried by rocking arms 35, 37, the arm 37 being connected by a link 46 to a periodically-operated lever 47. Each spool is formed in one flange 55 with a gap 54 normally bridged by a plate 51 which is pivoted at 52 to the flange and has a lug 56, Fig. 5, entering a depression in the spool-hub 31. Spring- urged levers 49, 50, pivoted on a stud 61, have lugs 53 resting on the flanges 55, and lugs 57, 57<1> co-operating with fingers 58, 58<1> on a link 59 connecting rocking arms 60 on the link 38. The ends of the arms 60 engage pins 71 on the pawls. When the ink ribbon has been wound off either spool, for instance the spool 31, the plate 51 is released and the lug 53 of the lever 49 can enter the gap 54, the lug 57 being thereby brought into the path of the finger 58 so that at the next operation of the lever 47 the arms 60 are rocked and the pawls 39, 40 are moved into and out of operative position. The spools are detachable from the ratchet-wheels, coupling being effected by engagement of lugs on the raitchet-wheels with openings 42, Fig. 5, in the spools. When the spools are inserted, the spool-flanges engage inclines on the lugs 53 and raise the levers 49, 50.
