Abstract

230,282. Bosanquet, E. F. S. March 24, 1924. Locking nuts. - A securing-nut is a fishplate joint &c. is locked by a washer of the type in which a part thereof is bent outwards after the nut is screwed home, to engage the sides or angles of the nut, the part being separated by slots or slits from the main body of the washer. According to the invention, the bendable part 11 of the washer 7 has two nicks 12 formed in its longitudinal sides without removing any of the metal from the washer, which nicks engage the angles of the nut when the part 11 is bent outwards. In a modification, the part 11 is formed by a longitudinal slit and two inclined transverse slits which engage the nut on three sides and extend to the opposite edge of the washer. Tongues or projections may be pressed out of the washer at right-angles to each other to engage slots in the work and prevent rotation of the washer.
