Abstract
230,079. Graf, A. S. Feb. 29, 1924, [Convention date]. Refrigerating, absorption machines for. - A reversing apparatus providing a continuous cooling-effect comprises a number of units symmetrically arranged and continuously movable about a common axis of rotation, each unit comprising two vessels 1<1>, 3<1> acting alternately as generators and absorbers, an evaporator 2<1>, and a coil 4 connecting the evaporator with the vessels 1<1>, 3', and serving as condenser. The connecting coil of one unit only is shown. Assuming the vessel 1<1> is over the heating means, the refrigerant is expelled therefrom through the coil 4 to the evaporator 2<1>, and the cold vapour returns to the vessel 3<1> which has been cooled and serves as absorber. The change of balance of the unit due to generation and absorption imparts a rotating movement to the system, which is rendered continuous by the successive operations of the several units. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following subject-matter :-The above described system may be moved by applied power instead of by gravity, and may have a rocking to and fro movement. In a single unit system a generatorabsorber vessel 1, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), and a condenser-evaporator vessel 2 are connected by a single tube 3 having its end 5 in the generatorabsorber shaped or arranged so that during the generating period the end 5 is in the vapour space, but after the apparatus has been inverted manually, for the evaporation and absorption period, the returning vapour is compelled to bubble through the liquor. The end 5 may be straight and enter a bell-shaped baffle having openings in the bottom into the liquor, or may be bent in the part outside the generatorabsorber vessel. Automatic reversal of the process may be effected by gravity, the two vessels being balanced about an axis a, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), so that the generator-absorber is lifted away from the source of heat when the accumulation of refrigerant in the condenser-evaporator is sufficient to alter the balance. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
