Thermionic amplifiers.-In an amplifier having a cathode 2, an anode 3, a control grid 4, and a space-charg grid 5 mounted be tween the cathode and control grid, an impedance, such as a resistance 7, is connected between the space-charge grid and a source 6 of potential in the anode-cathode circuit, so that the grid 5 is maintained at a positive potential less than that of the anode. An increase in the potential of the control grid causes an increase in the anode-cathode current, and a decrease in the current in the circuit of the space-charge grid. The potential drop across the resistance is thereby decreased and the potential of the grid 5 increases with the result that the space-charge grid assists the control grid.
