Abstract
The processes of the parent Specification and Specification 228,514, according to which combined shades of vat dyes and insoluble azo dyes derived from 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic arylides or the acylacetyl compounds described in Specifications 211,772 and 211,814 are produced, are extended to the use of any other coupling components which can be padded, printed, or dyed on vegetable fibre and developed with diazo compounds; such components are b -naphthol, acylaminonaphthols, ureas of 2 : 5 : 7-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid, derivatives of 1-oxynaphthalene-4-carboxylic acid described in Specification 211,223, pyrazolones, derivatives of b -ketonealdehydes such as acylaceticarylides, and dyestuffs which can be developed with diazo compounds. The fibre may be padded or printed with a mixture of a nitrosamine salt, a coupling component, and the ester salt of a leuco or vat dye, and then oxidized; or the coupling component and leuco ester salt may be applied and overprinted or padded with a diazo solution; or the coupling component may be applied and over-printed or padded with the leuco-ester salt and the diazo compound successively or together. According to examples the following effects are obtained: (1) green by printing with a mixture of nitrosamine of 5-nitro-2-anisidine, b -naphthol, and ester salt of leuco indigo (Specification 186,057) followed by development with acidified iron nitrate; (2) yellow-olive by printing with a mixture of nitrosamine of 3-nitro-4-toluidine, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and leuco indigo ester salt; (3) greenish olive by printing with a mixture of nitrosamine of o-nitraniline, acetoacetyl-p-anisidine, and leuco indigo salt; (4) chocolate-brown by printing first with a mixture of 4-oxynaphthalene-1-phenylketone and leuco indigo ester salt, and then with diazotized 5-chlor-2-toluidine; (5) reddish-brown by printing first with benzoyl-2 : 3-aminonaphthol and leuco indigo ester salt, and then with diazotized 4-nitro-2-anisidine; (6) green on a blue ground by preparing the goods with a mixture of 2 : 5-dichlorphenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and leuco indigo ester salt, and printing with diazotized 2 : 5-dichloraniline; (7) yellowish-green by grounding with acetoacetylaniline and printing with a mixture of diazotized 5-nitro-2-toluidine and leuco indigo ester salt; (8) blue, green, and yellow effects on a white ground by impregnating with acetoacetyl-p-anisidine and printing first with leuco indigo ester salt and then with diazotized o-chloraniline; in each example development is then effected by passage through a bath containing iron nitrate and sodium bisulphate. Instead of ester salt of leuco indigo may be used the corresponding derivatives of halogenated indigos, thioindigo, or other vat dyestuffs.
