Treating mould and core materials.-A portable apparatus particularly for treating foundry sand comprises an inclined and rapidly, upwardly moving inclined surface on which the sand is deposited, and so constructed that desirable particles are carried upwards, mixed, and centrifugally thrown through the air at the. upper end. The surface is in the form of an endless belt 1 provided with projecting blades 2 spaced to form cells or pockets as shown in Fig. 6. The lower ends of the blades are bent upwards at 2<a>, Fig. 7, and clinched into the material of the belt. The frame of the apparatus is provided with wheels 10, a foot 11, and with transporting handles 13. The belt runs over an upper roller 22 with fixed axis and belt driven from an electromotor 50. A suspension bail 51 is attached to the motor frame for engagement by a cranehook. The bearings of the lower roller are adjustable by nuts 59 as permitted by slots in the frame. The up run of the belt is prevented from sagging by a roller 40 having an elastic surface and carried by a strut shaft projecting from one side frame. The end rollers are flanged, one flange 26<a>, Fig. 4, being detachable. The rollers are keyed at their outer ends to spindles 25 running in bushes mounted in flanged sleeves 23 carried by a side frame, the rollers thus serving to guard the bearings from ingress of sand. Lubricant is supplied through bores 25a in the spindles to oil reservoirs 23<a>. The roller 40 is similarly lubricated. Rings 15 and side plates 16, 17 form a receptacle for the sand to be treated. The lumps are broken up by the blades 2 and the finer particles pass into the cells between the blades and are thrown over the upper pulley. Resilient fingers 36 prevent large particles and foreign bodies from passing over the pulley and such matter gravitates to the lower end of the conveyer. Guards 52, 53 protect the rollers from sand and casings are provided forthe gearing.
